Spring me

“Spring me” is a photo series by the Brazilian visual artist Lígia Francisco taken in the spring of 2018 when Lígia Francisco moved to Austin, Texas, and was greeted by those pink roses. Ligia Francisco’s artwork explores abstracts of ordinary objects/subjects. “Spring me" celebrates the mundane and takes a closer look at gender norms and the resilience caused by immigrating.

Austin’s climate
Do you know when after the rain
the sun strikes, and the flowers
hold the weight of
the shining water drops?

Do you know when the drops
remain on the petals and
the petals endure and wait
patiently in silence?

I am waiting too
soaked and tired
but mostly waiting for the
comfort of my solitude

When the wind blows
I hold myself proud
I must admit I admire
the courage to move and change.

It’s a painful favor the wind
sends to the flowers
It’s a painful favor the rain
offer us every time

Ellas, tan “delicadas”,
have learned well
some petals don’t make it, but
how could we've stayed the same?
